Avril Lavigne

Canadese, bionda, occhi azzurri, un viso che buca lo schermo.
Ma attenzione: la sua filosofia è “Devo indossare quello che mi pare, recitare quello che è più adatto a me e cantare quello che mi appartiene ed è più vicino alla mia sensibilità”.

Quindi, se a qualcuno venisse l’idea balzana che Avril sia l’ennesima teenpopper, si dovrà subito ricredere.

Quella che abbiamo di fronte è una vera tigre travestita da gattina: un felino agguerrito nato in un piccolo paesino di 5 mila anime dell’Ontario e trasferitosi a New York per realizzare il suo sogno: comporre ed interpretare la SUA musica!

A cavallo tra Pink e Blink 182, Avril soprende con il suo rock melodico e graffiante al tempo stesso. Se amate la scena post punk californiana e vi diverte lo skate pop, è lei la formula magica che ancora mancava sulla scena internazionale.

Di lei si può dire tutto, tranne che sia ordinaria. Una skater-punk, uno spirito libero, una ragazzina selvaggia, Avril è una di quelle rare creature che iniziano a far sentire la loro voce e la loro personalità già intorno ai due anni di vita: egocentrica, irrequieta a scuola e amante del mondo dello spettacolo fin da bambina, il suo passatempo preferito è salire sul suo letto, trasformarlo in un palco e cantare per un’audience immaginaria, ma reale al tempo stesso nelle emozioni che le dà.

Quando si parla di fantasia infantile!
Partendo dalla sua cameretta di Napanee, cittadina di poche migliaia di abitanti nella provincia canadese dell’Ontario, Avril tenta tutte le strade possibili per avvicinarsi al canto vero e proprio, iniziando dal coro della Chiesa, dandosi alla musica gospel, passando per i festival e provandoci con la country music nei concorsi per giovani talenti.

Poi la grande occasione.
In un viaggio a NYC, Avril attira l’attenzione del discografico Antonio ‘LA’ Reid, che intuisce subito il suo straordinario talento e la mette sotto contratto con l’Arista. A 16 anni si trasferisce a Manhattan e inizia a lavorare al suo primo CD, immergendosi senza timori nel pieno del processo creativo. “Adoro scrivere”, spiega. “Quando sono triste e voglio sbarazzarmi di questo stato d’animo, imbraccio la mia chitarra. Qualche volta penso che la mia chitarra sia un po’ il mio terapista”.

Nonostante la grande dedizione, durante la permanenza a New York gli sforzi iniziali della giovane artista in studio non sembrano sortire gli effetti desiderati.

Per nulla decisa a mollare e animata dall’ grande bisogno di esprimere se stessa nella sua musica, Avril cambia costa e va a Los Angeles, dove trova quella concentrazione e freschezza di cui ha bisogno. Là incontra l’autore e produttore Cliff Magness, l’uomo giusto per lei. Essendo la perfetta guida per Avril, discreta e professionale al tempo stesso, le permette di esprimersi liberamente.

Così, molto semplicemente, le canzoni di “Let Go”, il suo album d’esordio, cominciano a fluire. Per completare l’opera Avril si aggancia al Nettwerk Management, già alla guida delle carriere di Sarah McLachlan, Dido, Coldplay, Barenaked Ladies e Sum 41.

Nel disco, che esce a fine giugno 2002, Avril – appena diciassettenne - mette in pratica il suo mantra, ovvero “essere se stessi in quello che si fa”, facendo bella mostra della sua voce cristallina e di una manciata di testi che sono specchio della sua generazione e di ciò che lei è davvero.

Il primo singolo ad essere tratto dall’album è “Complicated”, una canzone che parla della vita, “delle persone che con falsità conducono le loro relazioni interpersonali”, come racconta la sua autrice.

La ragazza che odia essere normale, quella che amava fin da piccola gli sport maschili come l’hockey e il baseball, è ora pronta per mettersi in tour.

E la sua musica, in grado di raggiungere indifferentemente ragazzi e ragazze, è anche il perfetto stimolo per tutti quegli adulti ancora animati dallo spirito d’avventura che, però, non sono ancora riusciti a risvegliare appieno la loro voglia di divertimento.

Insomma, Avril libera il grido represso di tutti coloro che si complicano troppo la vita.

Con il suo recente successo "My Happy Ending" Avril Lavigne ha conquistato le prime posizioni in diverse hit europee. Anche questo brano fa parte di "Under My Skin", l'album che la brava e ribelle cantante canadese ha pubblicato quest'anno. Il brano di lancio fu "Don't tell me" ed ora Avril ci propone questa nuova ed interessante canzone "My happy ending".
